SLEEP ON BOAT PACKAGE: RIMBA ORANGUTAN ECOLODGE TOUR 5D 4N

TOUR Day 01Arrival

Activities on the first day its depend on your arrival time. This half day tour suits those arriving before midday at Pangkalan Bun. After you have been picked up at the airport by our Guide you will proceed to the port of Kumai to board our River Boat (klotok). The trip to The Rimba Orangutan Eco Lodge is two hours up the Sekonyer River and is pure magic as you sit on the top deck. Depending on time, you can check into your room at the Lodge where you can have lunch or if later you may have lunch on the boat on the way up en route to the orangutan feeding station. The Tandjung Harapan feeding station is at the park Headquarters only 10 minutes by klotok from the Lodge and begins at around 1500 hours. Here you will see your first Orang utans – a real thrill. TOUR Day 02CAMP LEAKEY

After a leisurely breakfast, you take your klotok to famous Camp Leakey to view Orangutans in their natural habitat; other primates to be seen are Proboscis Monkeys, Gibbons and Long Tailed Macaques, Silverbacked Langurs and hopefully you will see many birds, crocodiles and monitors. Camp Leakey (named after the famous Oxford based scientist Louis Leakey), is one of the homes of Professor Birute Galdikas (an investor in Ecolodges Indonesia). Camp Leakey is allegedly the longest biological, documented, scientific experiment on the globe. Galdikas is one of Leakey’s golden angels, the others being Dianne Fossey (Gorilla scientist – deceased) and Jane Goodall (the Chimpanzee scientist). On the way home, if the evening is clear, you should have a great sunset with the Proboscis Monkeys. Sleep on Boat

TOUR Day 03TANGUI and HARAPAN CAMP, and dinner with the FIREFLIES

Start with breakfast and leaving for the feeding station of Tanggui. Look for Giant Squirrels, pig and many butterflies on the walk in. Here as at all the feeding there is a large Alpha male. After viewing the Orangutans, you can walk around the area. Back on the boat, you have an option to proceed on a 2 Km walk to see an Oil Palm plantation.

Lunch on the boat when you will leave for The Tandjung Harapan feeding Station for the feeding at 1500. Here also there is a large Alpha male. After this feeding you may wish to drop into the local village across the river. You then return to the Lodge for bathing and a short rest.
Decorate your night with evening dinner on the boat with the Fireflies in the Nipah Palms, a magic experience as the whole night is lit up by these amazing insects. Sleep on Boat

TOUR Day 04TREKKING DAY AT PESALAT

After breakfast, leaving for Pesalat, a reforestation site supported by FRIENDS OF THE NATIONAL PARKS It has some great birding especially Flower peckers and Sun birds. Also at this unique location, you can plant your own tree and leave something behind showing your visit. Walk in from the river takes 45 minutes through swamp forest, The past a small medicinal plant area to “The Friends of the National Park” reforestation area (severely burned in 2006). This is a very good birding and walking area; also Clouded Leopard and Sun Bear spoor has been seen here. For only US$ 5 you can choose and plant a tree. Sleep at Rimba Lodge

TOUR Day 05DEPART – Tour End

After breakfast, transfer to Kumai and check in at the Pangkalan Bun’s airport.

Ucok Hakim

Ucok Hakim was born in Kumai, Central Kalimantan (Borneo) and was educated in Pangkalan Bun where attended primary and secondary school. In his spare time, he studied and qualified in Accountancy. He joined Ecolodges Indonesia in 2006 as restaurant staff but worked his way up and is now Assistant Manager. During this process, he came to love and study the wildlife in The Tandjung Puting National park and soon became an expert guide. Now Ucok or Hakim is a member of The Guides Association and well known throughout the world (see Reports on Trip Advisor and other websites) through the groups has guided and helped through Ecosafari Indonesia. He is the Head of our Guides at The Rimba Lodge and is used extensively by primate and birding groups.
